Our story
From 1995 to today
The Classic Car Club of Macedonia (LE.K.A.M.) was founded in 1995 by a small group of classic car enthusiasts, to rescue, preserve and showcase vehicles with a history.
Over three decades we have grown into the largest classic car club in Northern Greece, with hundreds of active members, regular regularity rallies, tours and partnerships with Greek and international organisations.
Today we carry the tradition forward with respect for automotive history and a love of meeting people, travelling and sharing experiences.
The early years
How it all began
LE.K.A.M. was founded in 1995 by a group of friends with a great love of classic cars, after many conversations about how to give that passion a home. It was the first club in Northern Greece dedicated to classic cars. The first statutes were drafted in Mr Filippou’s shop, modelled on those of FIL.P.A., and were filed with the Thessaloniki Court of First Instance by Mr Georgios Sietis.
Many names were considered, but LE.K.A.M. won, as it describes where the club is active. The idea for the emblem came from Mr Nikos Papadelis, who also drew it, and after a few changes it became the club emblem everyone knows today.
The first meeting took place at AURA in Ladadika, where Ilias Filippou invited everyone he knew who owned an old car. Among those present were the founders of the idea, including Messrs Bakaniaris, Kazazis, Emmanouilidis, Eikosidyos, Gkavezos, Xenopoulos, Ekklisiarchos, Thymis, Simantiras, Siokis and Raptopoulos.
The first event, the 1st Autumn Rally, was held in Panorama in 1995: a drive timed with hand-held stopwatches, with the support of the then mayor of Panorama, Mr G. Kedikoglou. Little by little the club grew, acquiring an office and rally equipment, a voice in the Hellenic Federation of Classic Car Clubs (FILPA) and close ties with classic car clubs in neighbouring countries.
From Ilias Filippou’s foreword in the first LE.K.A.M. magazine (1999), which you can find in our Library.
